i have nothing good to say about politics.  it is only fun for me to think about, and not a very good experience for anyone to witness.

    proceed with caution.

    a woman's right to choose:

    1.  what does this mean?

    2.  is the fetus part of the woman?

    3.  shouldn't the critical choice be made before the decision to have sex?

    4.  is a woman's life at stake EVERY time an abortion is considered?

    5.  should partial-birth abortion be available to women who have no health problems?

    6.  should taxpayer money be used to give free abortions?

    7.  should parents be contacted before a minor is allowed to receive an abortion?

this is a very delicate issue.  on either side i find a bumper-sticker response to all of these questions.  the left would say "protect a woman's right to choose", while the right would say "abortion is murder".  both of these responses seem to miss the mark.

there are people on the left who would say that abortion should be legal for every stage in the development of the fetus, all the way up until birth (regardless of the mother's ability to live).  i find this very disgusting, and about evil as the holocaust.  mother's have a very unique responsibility.  some believe that mother's should only be responsible for what they want, but i'm more inclined to believe that mother's have to take responsibility for what they do. why is it that a woman can ignore every choice in the process leading up to conception, and then care only about their choice when conception has already occurred?

there are people on the right who believe that human life begins at conception, and that any attempt to get rid of the fetus from the point of conception is murder.  i probably fall closer to this extreme.  it is hard for me to believe that with the modern technology we have today, we cannot deliver babies prematurely for the sake of saving the life of the mother; even if it means giving the mother a c-section and then putting the baby in an incubator.  we have come so far in the development of premature care, that the simple termination of a premature baby seems morally immature.  there are no excuses for the use of partial-birth abortions.  if a baby can be born partially, killed, put back into the womb, then born dead, i have reason to believe that the baby could easily be born naturally without risking the mother's life.  people who fight for this type of murder only have a political axe to grind, and care nothing about women at all.  if abortion exists at all, it should only be used in the rarest and most tragic cases.

  • The hardest laws to enforce are the ones don't have a majority 'buy-in'.  As a country we saw this during Prohibition.  The legacy of Prohibition is the Mafia.  The legacy of outlawing abortion would be the coathanger.

The problem isn't whether or not abortion is legal.  The problem is that some people actually consider abortion.  That's where our efforts need to be focused if we want to stop abortion.  Not in convincing people of the correctness of our views, but in helping people, with love, go through difficult situation.

That's touchy-feely cr@p , but it is also the only effective prevention.

    Great post.

  • @AliasUndercover - i agree with you.  i wouldn't say that it should be made completely illegal.  a lot of people have been turned around just by seeing their ultra-sound.  there was another article (i don't think i could find, but i'll try), where certain members of the pro-choice movement were speaking out against the use of untra-sounds as a tool for the pro-life movement.  this seems to me, cold and heartless.

btw, i seen you a-mowin last night.  brazos loves you.

  • yeah, i agree with you completely actually.

of course, alot of that common sense gets watered down and diffused as soon as someone gets put in a difficult situation. pro choicer people really just seemed to be obsessed with killing babies.. i dont understand any of it.

  • Hi Brazos!  FYI - I updated my post with the gory details if you are still curious.

    Take care
