here i will analyze a section of barack obama's own issues page, in order to give you some understanding on why i do not wish to vote for him.
CIVIL RIGHTS - first, and most important?
http://www.barackobama.com/issues/civilrights/
"Strengthen Civil Rights Enforcement
Obama will reverse the politicization that has occurred in the Bush Administration's Department of Justice. He will put an end to the ideological litmus tests used to fill positions within the Civil Rights Division. "
- he will create a new litmus test, and contradict his own mission statment. EDIT: i want proof of the current conservative litmus test.
"Combat Employment Discrimination
Obama will work to overturn the Supreme Court's recent ruling that curtails racial minorities' and women's ability to challenge pay discrimination. Obama will also pass the Fair Pay Act to ensure that women receive equal pay for equal work and the Employment Non-Discrimination Act to prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity or expression."
- he will take the power away from employers to pay what they feel is adequate.
"Expand Hate Crimes Statutes
Obama will strengthen federal hate crimes legislation, expand hate crimes protection by passing the Matthew Shepherd Act, and reinvigorate enforcement at the Department of Justice's Criminal Section. "
- because if you kill someone, it's still not as bad as killing someone because he's gay.
"End Deceptive Voting Practices
Obama will sign into law his legislation that establishes harsh penalties for those who have engaged in voter fraud and provides voters who have been misinformed with accurate and full information so they can vote. "
- this starts out okay, but i'm left with the assumption that the people he's trying to get support from don't understand the idea of marking the boxes of the people they WANT to vote for.
"End Racial Profiling
Obama will ban racial profiling by federal law enforcement agencies and provide federal incentives to state and local police departments to prohibit the practice. "
- and schools are still allowed to engage in racial profiling?
"Reduce Crime Recidivism by Providing Ex-Offender Support
Obama will provide job training, substance abuse and mental health counseling to ex-offenders, so that they are successfully re-integrated into society. Obama will also create a prison-to-work incentive program to improve ex-offender employment and job retention rates."
- money money money. i'm all for rehabilitation, but how can we afford to create an entirely new department?
"Eliminate Sentencing Disparities
Obama believes the disparity between sentencing crack and powder-based cocaine is wrong and should be completely eliminated. "
- i can get behind that, but how is this a civil rights issue? am i witness to the use of a negative black stereotype in order to win votes?
"Expand Use of Drug Courts
Obama will give first-time, non-violent offenders a chance to serve their sentence, where appropriate, in the type of drug rehabilitation programs that have proven to work better than a prison term in changing bad behavior. "
- no issue here.
the next installment will be titled, "DISABILITIES".
here is the description given :
“We must build a world free of unnecessary barriers, stereotypes, and discrimination .... policies must be developed, attitudes must be shaped, and buildings and organizations must be designed to ensure that everyone has a chance to get the education they need and live independently as full citizens in their communities.”
- in other words, it's civil rights part II. all organizations and building designs must be approved by the federal government. he will also shape our attitudes. i can feel mine being shaped already (don't watch tv).

I was literally just reading through his site. Obama is nuts. On his "Help the Poor" category it says: "as a young college graduate Barack Obama decided to forgo the high salaries offered to him by corporate American and instead move to the south side of Chicago to work at a community center" What BS! I didn't know that Harvard Law School was in the south side of Chicago. This man is a liar. Of course, Obama's not in it for the money, sure, he does actually care about the poor. Ha ha. I can't believe people drink this kool-aid everyday!
well, you've made yourself clear
McCain!!!!
ryc: thank you, thinmanii for the recommendations.
*wishes Ron Paul had won the primary*
Both sides are going to keep pushing big government. More laws and more power handed over by the many to the few. Either way this steam-engine is hurtling to the end of the line.
Honestly, I hope Obama gets the vote so that everyone will see this was an issue of Democrat/Republican, but power hungry politicians stripping the US of what made her great.
And then I have to remember that neither my hopes nor allegiances lie with a country.
EDIT: "this was not an issue of Democrat/Republican..."
@longtomorrow - i believe that at the core of the republican party, there is still some hope for small-government conservatives. it might take weeding through the war-hawks and "Jesus is a Republican" nut jobs, but they still exist.
@thinmanii - Sure. Ron Paul ran Republican. Again, I don't think this is a Republican/Democratic issue (both have nut jobs). It's an issue with humanity and selfish control. Both of the candidates want to gain control of the White House. They want power, and though they won't say it in so many words, they're going to take steps to give the government more power and people less. It may be through social reform or moralization, but I think we're going to see more and more laws and bills passed to govern how people live, and I think that's the problem, not the solution.
Ron Paul was the only candidate that I saw that looked like he was going to give power back to the states and individuals.
Have people forgotten that the founders fought over the concept of a national government? Some wanted to stay a bunch of colonies. Now we have a national government that takes our money and uses it to educate kids, tell businesses what they can and can't do, war with nations, tell us whether or not gays can get married, and God knows what else.
@longtomorrow - i agree completely
ryc: he's great, isn't he? he's from arizona. found him listening to my ulrich schnauss station on pandora. his most recent ambient album is very soothing.
